ABSTRACT

This study presented relevant aspects about the Amazonian environment and how it impacts the thermal comfort of domestic buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) raised in the Eastern Amazon. Furthermore, strategies for monitoring and mitigating animal heat stress are presented, based on research results with the species. Although domestic buffaloes are considered adaptable animals, exposure to intense solar radiation causes thermal discomfort. This condition is expressed in biophysical indicators, in metabolic, endocrine, behavioral responses, and in body thermographic patterns. Therefore, the biometeorological monitoring of production is crucial to support decision-making regarding environmental management strategies, genetic selection of thermotolerant individuals, and increase in animal welfare. Lastly, the use of silvopastoral systems can help to provide higher thermal comfort, which is a condition that directly impacts the productivity of milk and meat buffaloes when they are raised in tropical regions, such as in the Eastern Amazon.


Objetivou-se apresentar aspectos relevantes sobre o ambiente amazônico e como este impacta no conforto térmico de búfalos domésticos (Bubalus bubalis) criados na Amazônia Oriental. Adicionalmente, são apresentadas estratégias para monitoramento e mitigação do estresse térmico animal, a partir de resultados de pesquisa com a espécie. Apesar dos búfalos domésticos serem considerados animais adaptáveis, a exposição à intensa radiação solar provoca desconforto térmico. Essa condição é expressa em indicadores biofísicos, nas respostas metabólicas, endócrinas, comportamentais e nos padrões termográficos corporais. Assim, o monitoramento biometeorológico da produção é crucial para subsidiar tomadas de decisão em relação a estratégias de manejo ambiental, seleção genética de indivíduos termotolerantes e incremento do bem-estar animal. Por fim, o uso de sistemas silvipastoris pode auxiliar na oferta de maior conforto térmico, que é uma condição que impacta diretamente na produtividade de bubalinos de leite e carne, quando estes são criados em regiões tropicais, como na Amazônia Oriental.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Senna spectabilis is a multipurpose pantropical tree, used in agroforestry systems. Objective: To determine pod production (Pp) and their relationship with dasometric variables in S. spectabilis in the tropical dry forest. Methods: From August 2016 to February 2017, thirty trees in production stage were randomly selected. The random selection was formed of the more isolated trees from the total dispersion. The trees were monitored at the beginning and end of the study period, to determine dasometric measurements such as total height (Th), height to the first branch (Hb), crown height (Ch), Stem diameter (at 0.2 m height from the ground) (Db), crown diameter (Cd), and crown volume (Cv) measured. Pods were harvested by the researcher with cutting and height cutting tongs when their color began to change. Pearson correlations and univariate and multivariate regression analyses were performed between the dasometric variables and pod production. The potential number of trees/ha (NPa) was calculated by determining the occlusion percentage (Op) and the shadow area/tree (Ca); to estimate the production potential of fruits/ha, the production of fruits/tree was multiplied by (NPa). Results: Th was 6.16 ± 1.23 m, Hb 2.75 ± 0.52 m, Ch 3.41 ± 0.98 m, Db 20.43 ± 4.80 cm, Cd 7.46 ± 1.20 m and Cv 108.43 ± 61.38 m3/tree. There was a significant positive correlation between Hb, Cd, Db, with Pp of 0.592**, 0.592**, and 0.446* respectively. Pp was 32.73 ± 16.13 kg/tree and the dry matter production (MSP) was 17.84 ± 8.80 kg/tree. The result of the multivariate regression indicated that the second-order polynomial model presented best goodness of fit. Op was 73.4 7.92 %, the cup area was 49.3 m2/tree, Ca was 36.2 m2/tree, and NPa was 83 trees. Conclusions: The production of fresh pods/ tree in the S. spectabilis presents a potential in its availability as feed for ruminant or seed production. The potential production of pods in silvopastoral with S. spectabilis could be 2.72 t/ ha, and 1.64 t/ ha of dry pods, this shows the importance of trees and of pods production and nutritional contribution obtained for dry ecosystems.


Introducción: Senna spectabilis es un árbol pantropical multipropósito, utilizado en sistemas agroforestales. Objetivo: Determinar la producción de vainas (Pv) y la relación con las variables dasométricas en S. spectabilis en el bosque seco tropical. El número potencial de árboles/ha (NPa) fue calculado determinando el porcentaje de oclusión (Po) y el área de sombra/árbol (As); para calcular la producción potencial de frutos/ha, la producción de frutos/árbol fue multiplicada por (NPa). Métodos: Desde agosto del 2016 hasta febrero de 2017, treinta árboles en etapa de producción fueron seleccionados al azar, los más aislados del total de árboles dispersos fueron seleccionados, y fueron monitoreados al inicio y al final del período de estudio, para determinar las mediciones dasométricas como la altura total (At), altura a la primera rama (Apr), altura de la copa (Ac), diámetro del tallo (a 0.2 m altura desde el suelo) (Dt), diámetro de la copa (Dc) y volumen de copa (Vc). Las vainas se cosecharon cuando su color comenzó a cambiar. Se realizaron correlaciones de Pearson y análisis de regresión univariada y multivariada entre las variables dasométricas y la producción de vainas. El número potencial de árboles/ha (NPa) se calculó determinando el porcentaje de oclusión (Po) y el área de sombra/árbol (Asa); para estimar el potencial de producción de las vainas/ha, la producción de vainas/árbol se multiplicó por NPa. Resultados: La At fue de 6.16 ± 1.23 m, Apr 2.75 ± 0.52 m, Ac 3.41 ± 0.98 m, Db 20.43 ± 4.80 cm, Dc 7.46 ± 1.20 m y Vc 108.43 ± 61.38 m3/árbol. Existió una correlación positiva significativa entre Apr, Dc, Db, Pv de 0.592**, 0.592 ** y 0.446 * respectivamente. La Pv fue de 32.73 ± 16.13 kg y la producción de materia seca (PMS) fue de 17.84 ± 8.80 kg/árbol. El resultado de la regresión multivariada indicó que el modelo polinomial de segundo orden presentó la mejor bondad de ajuste. El Po de los árboles fue de 73.4 % ± 7.92 %, el área de copa fue de 49.3 m2/árbol, el Asa fue de 36.2 m2/árbol, el NPa fue de 83 árboles. Conclusiones: La producción de vainas frescas/árbol en el S. spectabilis presenta un potencial en la disponibilidad de alimento para los rumiantes o la producción de semillas. El potencial de producción de vainas en u arreglos silvopastoriles podría ser de 2.72 t/ha, y 1.64 t/ha de vainas secas, esto muestra la importancia del árbol de producción de vainas y la contribución nutricional para los ecosistemas secos.

Resumen Los sistemas ganaderos se basan en el monocultivo de gramíneas. El pastoreo comúnmente no tiene en cuenta la fisiología de las especies, lo que afecta la persistencia y calidad del forraje. Los sistemas silvopastoriles favorecen la producción y calidad del forraje. Por eso es importante conocer la dinámica de crecimiento de la pastura para determinar el momento óptimo de pastoreo. Con base en esto, el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de Acacia melanoxilum sobre la producción y calidad nutricional de una pradera mixta en trópico alto. La investigación se desarrolló en el Centro de Investigación y Capacitación "Santa María del Puyón", ubicado en Sopo, Colombia. Se evaluó una pradera de Cenchrus clandestinum y Lolium perenne, en pasturas en callejones se establecieron parcelas bajo y fuera de los árboles, y se evaluó el crecimiento (15, 30, 45 y 60 días) durante nueve meses. Luego se determinaron las propiedades fisicoquímicas del suelo, la altura sin disturbar del pasto, el número de hojas, el índice de área foliar y la producción y calidad de forraje. Después se utilizó un diseño al azar, y se realizó estadística descriptiva y análisis de varianza, mediante el programa Infostat® para el análisis de datos. Bajo los árboles se observó mayor pH, materia orgánica, minerales y capacidad de intercambio catiónico, mayor altura sin disturbar (p = 0,0001), diferencias en producción de forraje verde (p = 0,0128), composición botánica y mayor proteína cruda (p = 0,0061). Los árboles de A. melanoxilum favorecen el crecimiento y la calidad nutricional de praderas mixtas en trópico alto.


Abstract Livestock systems are based on the monoculture of grasses, grazing does not usually take into account the physiology of the species, this affects the persistence and quality of the forage. Silvopastoral systems favor forage production and quality, it is important to know the growth dynamics of the pasture to determine the optimal grazing moment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of Acacia melanoxilum on the production and nutritional quality of a mixed meadow in the high tropics. The research was carried out at the "Santa María del Puyón" Research and Training Center, located in Sopo, Colombia. A meadow of Cenchrus clandestinum and Lolium perenne was evaluated, in alley pastures, plots were established under and outside the trees, the growth was evaluated (15, 30, 45 and 60 days) for nine months. The physicochemical properties of the soil, undisturbed height, number of leaves, leaf area index, production and quality of forage were determined. A random design was used, descriptive statistics and analysis of variance were performed. The Infostat® program was used for data analysis. Under the trees there is a higher ph, organic matter, minerals and cation exchange capacity, higher undisturbed height (p = 0.0001), differences in green forage production (p = 0.0128), botanical composition, and higher protein crude (p = 0.0061). A. Melanoxilum trees favor the growth and nutritional quality of mixed grasslands in the high tropics.

ABSTRACT

Abstract General changes in land use have established patterns of modification of native vegetation into agricultural and grazing land. These production systems, as well as social and economic influences, have created diverse landscapes - mosaics composed of varied elements of vegetation cover (forests, crops, pastures, barren fields) that are distributed across spaces in different ways. In this investigation, we determine the distribution patterns of the richness, abundance and diversity of the bird community within the configuration and composition of agroforestry and silvopastoral landscapes. We observed 262 bird species, 6 720 individuals, 23 orders and 54 families within 39 production system mosaics. None of the species accumulation curves in the production systems reached their asymptote, and the calculated estimators predicted a greater number of species than those observed during the survey. In general terms, richness, diversity and equitability indices were highest in the mosaics of agroforestry systems, while abundance and dominance indices were highest in the mosaics associated with silvopastoral and traditional livestock systems. Variables that describe vegetation cover in mosaics have different and independent effects on the diversity of bird assemblages and on the association of land use groups within the mosaics. The positive extreme of the first component contributes to the variance in the model of richness and diversity indices - both the structural components of landscapes and biological components of the assemblages. The area and disposition of different types of elements in the mosaics of the production system landscapes reflect the systematic management of covers, which affects the implications of landscape conservation and restoration practices. Different landscape elements serve as points of contact in the dispersion and distribution of species within these landscapes. The priority of conservation efforts and the first step for the restoration and connectivity of landscapes in the Andean Amazon of Colombia should be the management and protection of covers like old stubble or BFG and BRP. Another approach is the design of landscapes for entire communities of species with respect to certain quantities of habitats in the landscape and the isolation of patches.(AU)


Resumen La conversión generalizada de los usos de la tierra, han establecido patrones de modificación de la vegetación nativa a usos dominados por tierras agrícolas y de producción ganadera. La operación de estos sistemas de producción y las influencias sociales y económicas han creado diversos paisajes, mosaicos de elementos de cubierta vegetal variada (bosques, cultivos, pastizales, terrenos baldíos) dispuestos de manera diferente en el espacio. En esta investigación determinamos los patrones de distribución de la riqueza, la abundancia y la diversidad de la comunidad de aves en la configuración y composición de los paisajes agroforestal y silvopastoril. Se registraron 262 especies de aves, 6 720 individuos, 23 ordenes y 54 familias en los sistemas de producción. Ninguna de las curvas de acumulación de especies en los sistemas de producción llego a su asíntota y los estimados calculados predijeron un mayor número de especies de las observadas durante el muestreo. La variabilidad encontrada tanto de riqueza, diversidad como de dominancia y equidad en los ensamblajes de aves, entre los diferentes sistemas es explicada tanto por composición como por estructura. Las variables que describen la cobertura en los mosaicos, tienen un efecto diferente e independiente en la diversidad del ensamble de aves y de la asociación de los grupos de usos de la tierra en los mosaicos. Se presentaron correlaciones positivas entre los usos del suelo de vegetación abierta y los índices de dominancia, y los usos de suelo de vegetación cerrada con los índices de riqueza y diversidad presente en los mosaicos. Las aves responden a la variación de las coberturas de los elementos de los mosaicos en los sistemas de producción en esta extensión, sin embargo, es probable que a escalas más grandes se puedan estimar algunos otros patrones con relación a las variables de clase y paisaje seleccionados en esta investigación. Se pueden predecir cuales son los variables del paisaje más importante para todas las variables de respuesta en los paisajes de 500 m de radio.(AU)

Resumen La expansión de la producción agrícola y ganadera ha sido un factor clave en la deforestación en el mundo y especialmente en la región tropical. En consecuencia, más de la mitad de la superficie terrestre del planeta se utiliza para el establecimiento de sistemas productivos, en este contexto las cercas vivas pueden generan efectos positivos sobre el ambiente y proveer bienes y servicios ambientales. En este trabajo hacemos una revisión sobre los efectos que tienen las cercas vivas sobre los sistemas productivos, analizando los usos y percepciones que tienen los agricultores. Esta revisión abarca las diferentes regiones tropicales del mundo. Se encontró que las cercas vivas estuvieron principalmente vinculadas a la delimitación de predios y potreros. No obstante, sus usos y beneficios son múltiples, entre los que se encontraron suministrar forraje, extracción de madera, proveer frutos, servir como rompevientos, generar medicinas, evitar la erosión del suelo, retener la humedad y suministrar aportes nutricionales. Además, se encontraron percepciones a favor como aumentar la conectividad del paisaje, aumentar los ingresos económicos, reducir los costos productivos, reducir la presión sobre la vegetación remanente, tener bajo costos de mantenimiento, contribuir al control de plagas y mejoran la fertilidad. Sin embargo, también se encontraron percepciones negativas como el excesivo trabajo al repararlas o podarlas, la sombra puede afectar la producción agrícola, la falta de información desestimula su establecimiento, costos elevados de establecimiento, generación de conflictos de propiedades y dificultad de manejo. Se encontró que los usos por parte de los agricultores están enfocados a mejorar los rendimientos de los sistemas productivos, pero también a la conservación de recursos naturales como el suelo y la biodiversidad. Se proponen temas de investigación para el futuro como determinar los criterios en la elección de especies nativas para establecer y enriquecer las cercas vivas dando valor a aspectos ecológicos y socioeconómicos, además, se debe profundizar en los beneficios que producen sobre los rendimientos de los sistemas productivos Se sugiere realizar estudios sobre las cercas vivas en la región tropical de Australasia debido a que no se encontraron estudios en esta región, así se podría conocer el estado de su biodiversidad y servicios que brinda a la comunidad rural. Por último, lo que se busca con esta revisión es generar iniciativas que fomenten la formulación de políticas rurales, la creación de programas que estimulen el establecimiento de cercas vivas, ya sea por medio de pagos por servicios ambientales, compensaciones tributarias u otro tipo de mecanismos. Proveer información adecuada a agricultores y ganaderos es un aspecto central de dinamiza el establecimiento de las cercas vivas.


Abstract The expansion of agricultural and livestock production has been a key factor in deforestation in the world and especially in the tropical region. Currently, more than half of the Earth's surface is used for the establishment of production systems; in this context, live fences can generate positive effects on the environment and provide environmental goods and services. In this work, we reviewed the effects of live fences on production systems from the tropical regions of America, Africa, Asia and Australia, analyzing the uses and perceptions of farmers that have made use of these fences. It was found that live fences were mainly related to the delimitation of farms and pastures. However, their uses and benefits are manifold, among which we found: provide forage, wood extraction, fruit supply, windbreaks, medicinal, to avoid soil erosion, moisture retention and nutritional support. In addition, other positive perceptions were: increasing landscape connectivity, increasing economic incomes, reducing production costs, reducing pressure on remaining vegetation, keeping maintenance costs down, contributing to pest control, and improving fertility. However, negative perceptions included the excessive work in repairing or pruning them, shade negative impact on agricultural production, lack of information discourages establishment, high establishment costs, generation of property conflicts and management difficulty. It was found that the uses by farmers are focused on improving the yields of productive systems, but also on the conservation of natural resources especially soil and biodiversity. We proposed research topics for the future, as determining the criteria in the selection of native species to establish and enrich living fences valuing ecological and socioeconomic aspects; in additionally, we must deepen the benefits they produce on the yields of productive systems. We suggest the development of live fences studies in the tropical region of Australasia, because no data was found for this region, in order to know the biodiversity and services status that they provide to the rural communities. As a conclusion, it will be important to generate initiatives that encourage the formulation of rural policies, the creation of programs that encourage the establishment of live fences, whether through payments for environmental services, tax compensation or other mechanisms. RESUMEN El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar la composición bromatológica, la selectividad animal, el consumo parcial, la producción lechera y la concentración de nitrógeno ureico en sangre y leche en vacas lecheras F1 (Gyr X Holstein) en sistemas silvopastoriles con diferentes densidades de árboles de Leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala). El estudio se realizó en La Hacienda el Chaco, Tolima (Colombia). Los tratamientos fueron: Ti: pastura de Cynodon nlemfluensis sin arboles; T2: C. nlemfluensis + 1264 árboles/ha de L. leucocephala; T3: C. nlemfluensis + 4255 árboles/ha de L. leucocephala y T4: C. nlemfluensis + 9899 árboles/ha de L. leucocephala. Se evaluaron 4 periodos experimentales de 32 días cada uno y se utilizaron 16 vacas lecheras F1 (Gyr X Holstein). Se observaron diferencias (P < 0,05) en el contenido de materia seca entre C. nlemfluensis y L. leucocephala. Además, se observó alta selectividad de las vacas por la gramínea (P < 0,05). El consumo de materia seca total disminuyó con el aumento en la densidad de árboles de L. leucocephala únicamente en el periodo 3 (P < 0,05). A medida que aumentó la densidad de árboles de L. leucocephala los valores de nitrógeno ureico en sangre y leche aumentaron (P < 0,05). La producción lechera no se alteró por los tratamientos. Se concluye que las vacas F1 (Gyr X Holstein) en sistemas silvopastoriles tienen una alta selectividad y consumo parcial de la gramínea, y niveles más altos de nitrógeno ureico en sangre y leche.


ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the chemical composition, selectivity, partial intake, milk production and concentration of urea nitrogen in blood and milk in F1 (Gyr x Holstein) dairy cows on silvopastoral systems with different densities of Leucaena leucocephala trees. The study was carried out in the Chaco Farm, Tolima (Colombia). The treatments were: T1: Cynodon nlemfluensis pasture without trees; T2: C. nlemfluensis + 1264 trees/ha of L. leucocephala; T3: C. nlemfluensis + 4255 trees/ha of L. leucocephala and T4: C. nlemfluensis + 9899 trees/ha of L. leucocephala. Four experimental periods of 32 days each were evaluated and 16 F1 (Gyr x Holstein) cows were used. Differences (P < 0.05) were observed in the dry matter content between C. nlemfluensis and L. leucocephala. Further, there was high selectivity of the cows for the grass (P < 0.05). Dry matter intake decreased with the increase in density of L. leucocephala trees in period 3 only (P < 0.05). As the density of L. leucocephala trees increased, the values of urea nitrogen in blood and milk increased (P < 0.05). Milk production was not different among any of the treatments. It is concluded that F1 (Gyr X Holstein) cows in silvopastoral systems show high selectivity and partial intake of grass, and higher levels of blood and milk urea nitrogen.

Resumen En Colombia el bosque seco tropical es una de los ecosistemas más amenazados y menos conocidos del país. Se desconoce mucho cómo los procesos de transformación y fragmentación de hábitat han afectado las condiciones y supervivencia de la avifauna del bosque seco. Este trabajo evaluó la influencia de los elementos del paisaje (bosques y potreros de producción ganadera con diferentes densidades de árboles) en la diversidad de aves en la región del bosque seco tropical del Departamento de Córdoba, Colombia. El trabajo se desarrolló caracterizando la avifauna en cuatro localidades conformadas por fragmentos de bosque secundario dentro de un paisaje dominado por áreas de ganadería extensiva. Se identificaron cuatro tipos de hábitats en el paisaje según la densidad de cobertura arbórea: fragmentos de bosque secundario, potreros con alta cobertura de árboles, potreros con baja cobertura árboles y potreros sin árboles. Con el fin de evaluar la influencia de la cobertura arbórea en la diversidad de aves, se realizaron muestreos en transectos de observación durante los meses de septiembre 2011 a mayo 2012 con muestreos mensuales. Los transecto tuvieron 200 m de longitud para el conteo de aves en cada hábitat, las observaciones se hicieron en la mañana (6:00 - 9:00) y en la tarde (15:00 - 18:00). Se registraron 6 667 individuos pertenecientes a 180 especies y 48 familias de aves. Las especies más abundantes fueron: Columbina talpacoti (5.37 %), Brotogeris jugularis (5.14 %), Tyrannus melancholicus (4.81 %) y Bubulcus ibis (4.80 %). La familia con mayor abundancia fue Tyrannidae (16.4 %), seguida de Psitacidae (9.0 %) y Columbidae (8.2 %). La familia que presentó mayor número de especies fue: Tyrannidae con 28 especies, seguida de Accipitridae e Icteridae con 10 especies cada una. La mayor riqueza de especies se presentó en el hábitat de bosque secundario, seguido de los potreros con alta cobertura de árboles y potreros con baja cobertura de árboles; la menor abundancia y riqueza de especies se encontró en los potreros sin árboles, presentándose diferencias significativas entre los hábitats (Fisher, p<0.05). La diversidad de aves fue mayor en los bosques secundarios según el índice de Shannon, en contraste, la menor diversidad se encontró en los potreros sin árboles. La mayor riqueza de especies se presentó en octubre y noviembre; en el resto del período de muestreo hubo estabilidad en el número de especies e individuos registrados. Se evidenció la importancia de la presencia de árboles en áreas de ganadería extensiva, debido a que ayudan a contener una importante diversidad de especies, así como a generar conectividad con los fragmentos de bosques secundarios presentes en el paisaje ganadero.


Abstract In Colombia the tropical dry forest is one of the most threatened and least known ecosystems; these have been impacted by different transformation processes and habitat fragmentation, which have affected bird conditions and survival. This research evaluated the influence of landscape elements (forest and pastures with different tree covers) on bird diversity in the tropical dry forest of Córdoba, Colombia. The study was developed within an extensive livestock landscape to characterize the avifauna in four habitat types formed by fragments of secondary forests with different tree cover: secondary forest, pastures with high tree cover, pastures with low tree cover and only pastures. The influence of tree cover on bird diversity was evaluated with monthly samplings in 200 m long transects (per habitat), with two observation intervals (6:00 - 9:00 and 15:00-18:00), from September 2011 to May 2012. A total of 6 667 individuals belonging to 180 species and 48 families of birds were registered. The most abundant species were Columbina talpacoti (5.37 %), Brotogeris jugularis (5.14 %), Tyrannus melancholicus (4.81 %) and Bubulcus ibis (4.80 %). The most abundant family was Tyrannidae (16.4 %), followed by Psitacidae (9.0 %) and Columbidae (8.2 %). The family with the highest number of species was Tyrannidae with 28 species, followed by Accipitridae and Icteridae with 10 species each. The greatest species richness was present in the secondary forest habitat, followed by the pastures with high tree cover, and pastures with low cover. The lowest abundance and species richness was found in pastures without tree cover with significant differences between the habitats (Fisher, p <0.05). According to the Shannon index, the diversity of birds was higher in the secondary forests. In contrast, the lowest diversity was found in pastures without tree cover. The greatest species richness occurred in the months of October and November. In the rest of the sampling period, the number of recorded species and individuals showed some stability. The importance of trees presence in extensive livestock areas was evidenced because they help to contain an important diversity of bird species, and they also generate connectivity among fragments of secondary forests in the cattle landscape.

ABSTRACT

Características produtivas e nutricionais de Brachiaria decumbens, submetida a condições de sombreamento (sol pleno, 20% e 70% de sombreamento), sem e com uso de fertilização (80 kg.ha-1 de N e K2O e 60 kg.ha-1 de P2O5), foram avaliadas no delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As parcelas sombreadas foram alocadas em um sistema silvipastoril, enquanto aquelas a pleno sol foram avaliadas em um monocultivo de B. decumbens. O sombreamento severo promoveu reduções de 54% na massa seca verde, 59% na massa seca total e 58% na densidade volumétrica de forragem. Aumentos da massa de forragem e da densidade volumétrica em resposta ao fertilizante foram observados somente nas condições de sol pleno e sombreamento moderado. A adubação não influenciou nas características nutricionais da forragem, mas o sombreamento severo promoveu aumentos de 20 e 51% nos teores de clorofila e de proteína bruta, respectivamente. Reduções dos teores de fibra em detergente neutro e fibra em detergente ácido foram observadas com o sombreamento. Os teores de lignina e a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca não variaram com nenhum fator estudado (médias de 6,0 e 60,9%, respectivamente). A adubação de B. decumbens com dose moderada de NPK é recomendada para dosséis cultivados no sol pleno e sombreamento moderado, mas deve ser evitada em pastos severamente sombreados, pois não reflete aumento de massa de forragem nem melhorias de seu valor nutricional.(AU)


Productive and nutritional traits of Brachiaria decumbens, submitted to shading conditions (full sun, 20% and 70% shading) and fertilization levels (without or with 80 kg.ha-1 of N and K 2 O and 60 kg.ha-1 of P 2O5), were evaluated in a randomized complete block design, with four replications. The shading were allocated in a silvopastoral system, while full sun was obtained in an exclusive B. decumbens pasture. The severe shading reduced the green dry mass in 54%, total dry mass in 59% and the forage bulk density in 58%. Increases in the forage mass and forage bulk density in response to fertilization were observed only in full sun and moderate shade. The nutritional traits did not vary with fertilization, but the chlorophyll and crude protein contents increased 20 and 51% with severe shading, respectively. The neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber reduced with shade. The lignin content and in vitro dry matter digestibility did not vary with factors (average values of 6.0 and 60.9%, respectively). Fertilization with moderate dose of NPK is recommended to B. decumbens in full sun and moderate shading, but should be avoided in severely shaded pasture, because not reflected in improvement of forage mass and its nutritional traits.(AU)

ABSTRACT: The silvopastoral system has been suggested as an alternative to recover degraded pastures in tropical regions. However, trees reduce the light available for pastures, which may affect the growth and herbage accumulation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphogenesis, canopy structure and herbage accumulation of signalgrass ( Brachiaria decumbens ) subjected to three light regimes (0, 20 and 70% of natural shading) and two fertilization levels (presence or absence of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium). Leaf and stem elongation rates increased under shading but did not vary with fertilization. The leaf appearance rate was greater under fertilizer treatment but was generally similar among light regimes. The tiller density was greater in full sun and lower in intense shading. Tiller density responded to fertilization under full sun and moderate shading. Herbage accumulation increased by 42% with fertilization under full sun, 12% under moderate shading and did not vary under intense shading. Results showed that even under fertilization the herbage accumulation was limited by reduced light. However, under moderate shade the fertilization was important to raise tiller population over the growth cycles.


RESUMO: Os sistemas silvipastoris têm sido sugeridos como alternativa para recuperação de pastagens em regiões tropicais. Entretanto, as árvores reduzem a disponibilidade de radiação para o pasto, o que pode influenciar no crescimento e acúmulo de forragem. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a morfogênese, a estrutura do dossel e o acúmulo de forragem de Brachiaria decumbens , submetida a três regimes de luz (0, 20 e 70% de sombreamento natural) e dois níveis de fertilização (presença ou ausência de nitrogênio, fósforo e potássio). As taxas de alongamento de folhas e colmos aumentaram com o sombreamento, mas não variaram com a fertilização. A taxa de aparecimento de folhas foi maior com a fertilização, mas, em geral, foi semelhante entre os níveis de sombra. A densidade de perfilhos foi maior no sol pleno e menor na sombra intensa. A densidade de perfilhos respondeu à fertilização sob sol pleno e sombra moderada. O acúmulo de forragem aumentou 42% com a fertilização no sol pleno, 12% na sombra moderada e não variou na sombra intensa. Os resultados mostraram que, mesmo com uso de fertilização, o acúmulo de forragem foi limitado pela redução de luz. Em condições de sombra moderada, a fertilização foi importante para aumentar a população de perfilhos ao longo dos ciclos de crescimento.

ABSTRACT: Trees in the production systems can effectively reduce hot weather-induced stress in the Brazilian Midwest. High temperatures cause changes in animals daily routine, and trees into pastures can promote benefits. The aim of this research was to evaluate the behavior of dairy heifers in silvopastoral systems in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. A herd of 24 crossbreed heifers (3/4 and 7/8 Holstein/Zebu), 350kg average weight, was evaluated over three seasons. Piatã grass was managed under three shade levels: full-sun, moderate-shade, and intensive-shade provided by 10 to 12m high Eucalyptus trees. Behavior data were collected every 15 minutes from 8:30h to 16h. Shade availability significantly impacted heifer behavior, mainly affecting grazing frequency and time during the hottest hours. Grazing behavior was affected by shade levels during the different seasons. Heifers showed preferred grazing times. Heifers in the intensive-shade system visited shady areas during the hottest hours throughout the seasons. Heifers in the full sun-system avoided grazing during the warmer times, ceasing feeding activities. Our results from the Brazilian Midwest showed that shade availability causes breed heifers to change their daily routine.


RESUMO: A presença de árvores em sistemas de produção animal pode reduzir o estresse provocado pelo calor no centro-oeste brasileiro. As altas temperaturas induzem a uma mudança na rotina dos animais e, as árvores dentro da pastagem podem promover benefícios. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o comportamento de novilhas leiteiras em sistemas integrados no Mato Grosso, Brasil. Um grupo de 24 novilhas cruzadas (3/4 e 5/8 Holandês: Gir) de 350kg foi avaliado em três estações do ano. O capim piatã foi manejado sob três níveis de sombreamento: pleno sol e sombreamentos moderado e intenso promovidos por eucaliptos com 12m de altura. O comportamento das novilhas foi medido a cada 15 minutos entre 8h30min às 16h. A disponibilidade de sombra modificou o padrão de comportamento das novilhas, afetando a frequência e o tempo de pastejo nas horas mais quentes do dia. O comportamento de pastejo foi afetado pelos níveis de sombra e, variou nas diferentes estações do ano. As novilhas em sistemas com sombreamento intenso procuraram pela sombra nas horas mais quentes do dia durante as três estações do ano avaliadas. Já, as novilhas nas condições de pastagem a pleno sol, não pastejaram durante as horas mais quentes do dia, pois interrompiam suas atividades e permaneciam inativas durante grande período do dia. A disponibilidade de sombra induz novilhas cruzadas a mudarem sua rotina diária nas condições do Centro-Oeste brasileiro.

ABSTRACT: In this study, it was evaluated the effect of shade on forage yield, rate of CO2 assimilation, and the quality of annual ryegrass ( Lolium multiflorum L.) cv. 'BRS Ponteio' and black oat ( Avena strigosa Schreb) cv. 'IAPAR 61', grown under three shading conditions (0%, 25%, and 50% shade) using slatted wooden structures. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications. Slatted structures were efficient in simulating the proposed shading conditions. Shading plants significantly decreased forage yield and CO2 assimilation by both species. Ryegrass cv. 'BRS Ponteio' performed better under shade, with higher forage production under all shading conditions. Rate of CO2 assimilation was reduced by 13 and 22 percentage points compared to the same species grown in the open field (0% shade), under 25% and 50% shade, respectively. These shading conditions did not affect crude protein (CP) content, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) concentration, or the leaf:stem (L:S) ratio compared to those grown in the open field. Between the species evaluated, ryegrass had the greatest potential for use as forage in a silvopastoral system.


RESUMO: O estudo objetivou avaliar o efeito do sombreamento sobre a produção de forragem, a taxa de assimilação de CO2 e qualidade de azevém ( Lolium multiflorum L.) cv. 'BRS Ponteio' e aveia preta ( Avena strigosa Schreb), cv. 'IAPAR 61', cultivadas sob três níveis de sombreamento artificial (0, 25 e 50%), obtidos por meio de estruturas de ripado de madeira. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. As estruturas de ripado simularam eficientemente os níveis de sombreamento propostos. O sombreamento diminuiu significativamente a produção de forragem e a taxa de assimilação de CO2 de ambas as espécies testadas. O azevém foi mais tolerante ao sombreamento, com maior produção de forragem em todos os níveis de sombreamento testados. O valor da taxa de assimilação de CO2 foi reduzido em 13 e 22 pontos percentuais em relação ao céu aberto, nos níveis de 25% e 50% de sombreamento, respectivamente. Em comparação a pleno sol, os níveis de sombreamento não afetaram os teores de proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e relação lâmina:colmo. Entre as espécies avaliadas, o azevém foi considerado a espécie com maior potencial em um sistema silvipastoril.

ABSTRACT

Cattle ranching systems have traditionally been studied based on Cartesian research models that break them down into each of their constitutive parts. For this reason, definition of biophysical and technical-productive parameters dominates knowledge in this area, but does not allow a complex vision of the production systems to be obtained. The emergence of agroecology and the implementation of new models of livestock rearing, such as silvopastoral systems (SPS), suggests that, in addition to studying the characteristics of the natural and technical-productive quantitative variables, sociocultural aspects should be incorporated to offer a more complex, transdisciplinary vision of agricultural systems and to allow new interpretations of agro-ecosystems, their components and interrelationships. The tick Rhipicephalus microplus has normally been considered a disruptor of the equilibrium of the ranching system, such that positivist research recommends its eradication. In this study, the structure and function of the system is related to a specific agricultural problem by describing the characteristics of a theoretical model to analyze tick infestation on cattle in the Abanico de Ibagué (Colombia), using the complex systems approach. Through development of this model, it was possible to postulate dynamic relationships between the SPS and conventional system components that can influence the behavior of the tick, demonstrating its presence in the system to be essential for achieving socioecological resilience.


Los sistemas de cría de ganado han sido tradicionalmente estudiados en base a modelos de investigación cartesiana que los dividen en cada una de sus partes constitutivas. Debido a esto la definición de los parámetros biofísicos y técnico-productivos domina el conocimiento en ésta área, pero no permite obtener una visión compleja del sistema de producción. La aparición de la agroecología y la implementación de nuevos modelos de cría de ganado, como los sistemas silvopastoriles (SPS), sugieren que además de estudiar las características de las variables componentes naturales de tipo cuantitativas y técnico-productivas, los aspectos socioculturales deben ser incorporados para ofrecer una visión compleja y transdisciplinaria de los sistemas agropecuarios y para permitir hacer nuevas interpretaciones de los agroecosistemas, sus componentes e interrelaciones. La garrapata Rhipicephalus microplus ha sido normalmente considerada como un disruptor del equilibrio de los sistemas de cría, tanto que la investigación positivista recomienda su erradicación. En este estudio, la estructura y función del sistema es relacionado a un problema agropecuario específico, al describir las características de un modelo teórico para analizar la infestación por garrapatas en Ganado del Abanico de Ibagué (Colombia), utilizando el enfoque de sistemas complejos. A través del desarrollo de éste modelo fue posible postular relaciones dinámicas entre componentes del SPS y los sistemas convencionales que influencian el comportamiento de la garrapata, demostrando que su presencia en el sistema es esencial para alcanzar adaptabilidad socioecológica.

ABSTRACT

Grasslands afforestation aims at adding different soil uses in a way they become profitable for their owners. As such handling aims at minimizing impacts, the current study had as its goal the use of soil macrofauna in order to evaluate legume afforestation effects on the soil, regardless the depth. Thus, nitrogen fixing species were inserted onto grassland areas and the macrofauna collection was performed 6 years after their planting in the 0-10cm, 10-20cm and 20.30cm layers, in winter and summer. Leguminous influence was different between depths and times of the year. It mostly favors communities under "Mimosa" Genus treetops. Besides, the effects from climatic seasonal variations on invertebrates were mitigated by the implementation of such legume trees.


A arborização de pastagens visa a agregar diferentes usos do solo de um modo rentável a seu proprietário. Como este manejo visa a minimizar impactos, este trabalho objetivou utilizar a macrofauna do solo para avaliar os efeitos que a arborização por leguminosas causa sobre o solo, em suas diferentes profundidades. Para isso, foram inseridas espécies fixadoras de nitrogênio em uma pastagem, sendo a coleta da macrofauna realizada 6 anos após o plantio, nas camadas 0-10cm, 10-20cm e 20-30cm, no verão e inverno. A influência das leguminosas se deu de modo diferenciado entre as profundidades e estações do ano, com maior favorecimento da comunidade sob a copa das árvores do gênero Mimosa. Além disso, o efeito da variação sazonal climática sobre os invertebrados foi amenizada com a implantação das leguminosas arbóreas.

ABSTRACT

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a produção e o valor nutritivo de nove espécies de leguminosas forrageiras herbáceas tropicais, cultivadas sob dois níveis de irradiação luminosa e seis frequências de corte na estação chuvosa, em Anhembi (SP), Brasil. Parcelas puras foram estabelecidas ao sol e sob plantação de Eucalyptus grandis, com 8 anos de idade, com 1.000 árvores/ha, que interceptou mais de 80% da radiação luminosa incidente. Avaliou-se a taxa de acúmulo de matéria seca, a proteína bruta e a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca em amostras de plantas colhidas em intervalos de 30, 60, 90 e 180 dias, com cortes adicionais aos 120 e 150 dias. Sob pleno sol, as leguminosas testadas toleraram cortes mais frequentes (intervalos de 30 - 90 dias), exceto o Lablab. Na sombra, o grau de tolerância variou conforme a espécie; em termos de produção de MS e de persistência, a Centrosema e a Puerária se destacaram dentre as demais leguminosas comparadas, quando os cortes foram realizados em intervalos de 60 dias, enquanto o Arachis e o Estilosantes foram os mais produtivos quando os cortes ocorreram em intervalos de 120 dias, mantendo o valor nutricional. O Alysicarpus e a Aeschynomene não persistiram sob o nível de sombreamento que prevaleceu nesse experimento.


The aim of this study was to evaluate the production and nutritive value of nine tropical legumes under two light intensities and six cutting regimens in the wet season, in Anhembi (SP) - Brazil. Pure stands were established in full light and under an eight-year-old eucalyptus plantation with 1.000 plants per hectare. The trees intercepted over80% of the incident radiation. Dry matter herbage accumulation, dry matter in vitro digestibility and crude protein under the cutting intervals 30, 60, 90 and 180 days, with additional cuttings at 120 and 150 days were evaluated. With the exception of Lablab, all other tested legume species tolerated higher cutting frequency under when grown under full sun light then under shade. The degree of shade-tolerance varied according to the species; Centrosema and Pueraria produced well at cutting intervals of 60 days, showing higher dry matter production and persistence while Arachis and Stylosanthes showed better results under longer cutting intervals, keeping the nutritional value, and can be indicated for differential grazing. Alysicarpus and Aeschynomene did not persist under the prevailing conditions.

O sistema silvipastoril caracteriza-se por aumentar a produção de leite, com maior número de vacas por hectare devido ao maior aporte de proteína na dieta. Neste sistema as vacas são alimentadas, além do pasto, de pequenas árvores e arbustos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi determinar os principais indicadores de qualidade do leite e agentes causais de mastite em vacas criadas em sistema silvipastoril. Foram avaliadas a composição (teor de gordura, proteína total, lactose, extrato seco, extrato seco desengordurado e nitrogênio uréico), contagem de células somáticas (CCS), contagem bacteriana total (CBT), ocorrência de mastite clínica e subclínica, isolamento microbiológico, perfil de sensibilidade bacteriana "in vitro" e detecção de resíduos antimicrobianos no leite produzido por 100 vacas, bem como do tanque de expansão e latões em propriedades do Vale do Cauca, Colômbia. Os teores médios dos principais constituintes do leite foram 3,24% de gordura, 3,27% de proteína total, 4,40% de lactose, 10,62% de extrato seco, 8,57% de extrato seco desengordurado e 15,82mg/dL de nitrogênio uréico, enquanto do tanque de expansão e latões foi 3,51% de gordura, 3,20% de proteína total, 4,34% de lactose, 11,72% de extrato seco, 8,47% de extrato seco desengordurado e 14,57mg/dL de nitrogênio uréico. A celularidade média dos quartos mamários e do tanque de expansão foi 141.252,75 CS/mL e 363.078,05 CS/mL respectivamente. A CBT média dos quartos mamários e do tanque de expansão foi 4.466,84 UFC/mL e 24.547,01 UFC/mL. Os principais micro-organismos isolados dos quartos mamários foram Corynebacterium bovis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus hyicus, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus dysgalatiae, enquanto do tanque de expansão foram identificados Streptococcus spp., Enterobacter cloacae, Hafnia alveii, Streptococcus hemolítico e Streptococcus spp., com maior frequência. A presença de resíduos de antimicrobianos em leite de vacas e do tanque ou latão foi detectada em 30% e 86% das amostras, respectivamente. O sistema silvipastoril mostrou ser uma boa alternativa para produção de leite em vacas. No entanto, são necessários cuidados no tratamento mamário para evitar resíduos no leite e a análise de todos os parâmetros de qualidade para garantir um produto diferenciado.


The silvopastoral system is characterized by increasing the production of milk with a greater number of cows per hectare due to the higher amount of protein in the diet. In silvopastoral system cows are fed in addition to pasture, small trees and shrubs. The aim of this study was determinate the main indicators of milk quality and mastitis causal agents in cows bred on silvopastoral system. We evaluated the composition (fat, total protein, lactose, solids, dry extract, nonfat dry and urea nitrogen), somatic cell count (SCC), total bacterial count (TBC), occurrence of clinical and subclinical mastitis, microbiological isolation, in vitro antimicrobial sensitivity profile and detection of antimicrobial residues in milk produced by 100 cows raised in silvopastoral systems, as well as the bulk tank and churns in farms of Cauca Valley, Colombia. The concentration of the major constituents of milk were 3.24% fat, 3.27% total protein, 4.40% lactose, 10.62% dry extract, 8.57% nonfat dry and 15.82mg/dL urea nitrogen, while the bulk tank and churns was 3.51% fat, 3.20% total protein, 4.34% lactose, 11.72% dry extract, 8.47% nonfat dry and 14.57mg/dL urea nitrogen. The cell count of the cows and the bulk tank was 141,252.75 CS/mL and 363,078.05 CS/mL respectively. The TBC mean in cows and the bulk tank was 4,466.84 CFU/mL and 24,547.01 CFU/mL respectively. The main microorganisms isolated from the udder cows were Corynebacterium bovis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus hyicus, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus dysgalatiae, while the bulk tank were identified more often Streptococcus spp., Enterobacter cloacae, Hafnia alveii, hemolytic Streptococcus and Streptococcus spp. Antimicrobial residues in cow milk and bulk or churn were detected in 30% and 86% respectively. The silvopastoral system showed to be good alternative to milk production in cow. However is important the care with antimicrobial residues in milk and the analysis of all quality parameters to ensure a differentiated product.

Objetivou-se com esse estudo foi avaliar a influência da fertilização nitrogenada e do sombreamento artificial sobre a produtividade e variáveis bromatológicas da Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu. A pastagem foi submetida a quatro doses de adubação (0, 50, 70 e 100 kg de N por aplicação) e a quatro percentuais de sombreamento (0, 47, 53 e 66%) por meio de tela de náilon. A produção de matéria seca teve resposta linear para o sombreamento e a fertilização nitrogenada, onde reduziu com o sombreamento e aumentou com as doses de N. Os valores médios do índice de área foliar e a interceptação luminosa foram superiores ao preconizado no manejo de pastagens. O sombreamento não alterou a altura do dossel e o teor de FDN. Os maiores teores de FDN foram com 100 kg de N e os menores de FDA com 47,5% de sombreamento. O teor de PB decresceu linearmente em função do aumento sombreamento e das doses de N. A produção do capim-marandu responde positivamente ao aumento do N e negativamente ao sombreamento, enquanto que a quantidade e a qualidade da proteína decrescem pela ação de ambos os fatores.


The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of nitrogen fertilization and artificial shading on yield and nutritive value of variables Brachiaria brizantha. Marandu. The pasture was subjected to four fertilizer levels (0, 50, 70 and 100 kg N per application) and four percentage shading (0, 47, 53 and 66%) through nylon screen. The dry matter production had linear response to nitrogen fertilization and shading, where shading and decreased with increased with doses of N. The mean values of leaf area index and light interception were higher than recommended in pasture management. Shading did not affect canopy height and NDF. The highest NDF were with 100 kg N and under ADF with 47.5% shading. The CP decreased linearly with the increase shading and levels of N. The production of Marandu palisadegrass responds positively to increased N and negatively to shading, while the quantity and quality of the protein decreases the action of both factors.

El objetivo fue comparar, en cuanto a productividad en materia seca y captura de carbono, entre un sistema silvopastoril y un sistema tradicional en cinco fincas ganaderas de piedemonte del departamento de Casanare. En el lote experimental de cada finca se sembró una mezcla de cuatro especies de pastos, de los cuales Brachiaria brizantha fue la especie que tuvo un desarrollo exitoso en las cinco fincas, y con la cual se analizó su productividad en materia seca y captura de carbono. A los cinco meses después de la renovación de pastos en los lotes experimentales se obtuvo una productividad en materia seca entre 6,3 y 14,9 tMS/ha, y encaptura de carbono entre 2,7 y 6,4 tCOT/ha; mientras que en los lotes tradicionales estuvo entre 4 y 5 tMS/ha, y en captura de carbono entre 1,7 y 2,9 tCOT/ha. A los 20 meses en los lotes experimentales se obtuvo una productividad en materia seca entre 12 y 13,7 tMS/ha, y en captura de carbono entre 4,1 y 4,5 tCOT/ha; mientras que en los lotes tradicionales estuvo entre 4,4 y 6,5 tMS/ha, y en captura de carbono entre 1,4 y 2,1 tCOT/ha. The goal was to compare, in terms of dry matter productivity and carbon sequestration, asilvopastoral system with a traditional system in five foothill cattle farms in the Departmentof Casanare. A mixture of four species of grass was planted in the experimental plot of eachfarm, of which Brachiaria brizantha was the species that had a successful development in thefive farms, and whose dry matter and carbon sequestration productivity was analyzed. Fivemonths after pasture renovation in the experimental lots, a dry matter productivity between6.3 and 14.9 tMS/ha and carbon sequestration productivity between 2.7 and 6.4 tCOT/ha were obtained; in traditional lots, dry matter productivity was between 4 and 5 tMS/ha,while carbon sequestration productivity was between 1.7 and 2.9 tCOT/ha. No lote experimental de cada fazenda plantou-se uma misturade quatro espécies de pastos, dos quais Brachiaria brizantha foi a espécie que teve um desenvolvimentobem-sucedido nas cinco fazendas, e com a qual analisou-se sua produtividadeem matéria seca e captura de carbono. ABSTRACT

O sucesso na utilização de pastagens em sistemas silvipastoris depende da compreensão dos mecanismos morfofisiológicos e de sua interação com o ambiente e do manejo. Objetivou-se avaliar as taxas de aparecimento de folhas (TApF) e alongamento de folhas (TAlF) e colmos (TAlC), número de folhas emergentes (NFEm), expandidas (NFEx) e vivas (NFV), cobertura do solo e altura do capim-marandu consorciado com coco-anão. O experimento foi conduzido em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, tendo nas parcelas os tratamentos irrigado e não-irrigado e nas subparcelas seis intervalos de desfolha (14, 21, 28, 35, 42 e 49 dias), no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com seis repetições. A irrigação proporcionou aumento na cobertura, altura e na TAlF e TAlC do capim-marandu para os intervalos de desfolha de 49 e 14 dias, respectivamente. O intervalo de desfolha proporcionou redução linear nas TApF e TAlC, e aumento linear no NFEx, NFV, cobertura e altura do capim-marandu. A TAlF é maior quando se utilizam intervalos de desfolha de 37 e 29 dias, para o capim-marandu irrigado e não-irrigado, respectivamente. Conclui-se que mesmo em condições de sombreamento, o capim-marandu, quando irrigado e submetido a maiores intervalos de desfolha, proporciona maiores taxas morfogênicos e de crescimento, indicando o potencial desta forragem em sistemas integrados de produção.


The success in the use of pastures in silvopastoral systems depends on the understanding of the morphophysiological mechanisms and its interaction with the environment and of the management. It was aimed to evaluate the leaf appearance rate (LAR), leaf elongation rate (LER), stem elongation rate (SER), emerging leaf numbers (EmLN), expanded leaf numbers (ExLN), living leaf numbers (LLN), soil cover and plant height of Marandu grass intercropped with coconut. The experiment was mounted in a completely randomized arrangement, with six replications, in a split-plot design. The plots a treatments irrigated and not-irrigated and six rest periods in the split-plots (14, 21, 28, 35, 42 and 49 days). The irrigation provided increase in the soil cover, plant height, LER and SER of Marandu grass for the rest periods of 49 and 14 days, respectively. The rest periods provided linear reduction in the LAR and SER, and linear increase in the ExLN, LLN, soil cover and plant height of Marandu grass. The LER is bigger when rest periods used of 37 and 29 days, for Marandu grass irrigated and not-irrigated, respectively. It concludes that exactly in shade conditions, Marandu grass, when irrigated and submitted the biggest rest periods, provides to greaters morphogenic taxes and growth, indicating the potential of this fodder plant in integrated systems of production.

The comparative effect of dual inoculation of native N fixer (Rhizobium) and AM fungi consortia with different organic fertilizers (vermicompost and farm yard manure) on fodder production and quality of two leguminous tree species (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam) de. Wit. and Sesbania sesban (L.) Merr.) in silvopastoral system and their impact on the fodder production of un-inoculated Panicum maximum Jacq. under cut and carry system. After three years of plantation maximum tree survival was in L. leucocephala in all the treatments in comparison to S. sesban while fodder production was more in S. sesban for initial two years and in third year it accelerated in L. leucocephala. Dual inoculation with vermicompost significantly improved fodder production, fodder quality and rhizosphere microflora in L. leucocephala but in S. sesban dual inoculation was at par with single inoculation of N fixer, AM fungi and control (without inoculation). The grass production was higher with L. leucocephala for two years while in third year it was more with S. sesban. The association of Rhizobium with AM fungi in L. leucocephala was better than in S. sesban.

Para conocer la abundancia, riqueza y composición de hormigas cazadoras y su variación en los sistemas productivos del departamento de Caquetá, se seleccionaron 27 fincas representativas de tres ventanas (agroforestal, silvopastoril y tradicional), en las cuales se identificaron hasta nueve clases de usos del suelo. Las proporciones dedicadas a pastos limpios, agroforestales y rastrojos viejos, fueron las que más contribuyeron a diferenciar las ventanas. Se muestrearon cinco puntos por finca mediante cuatro métodos para captura de hormigas (TSBF, lavado de suelo con formol, escrutinio de hojarasca y búsqueda directa). De un total de 280 individuos se determinaron nueve géneros y 35 especies de las subfamilias Ectatomminae, Paraponerinae y Ponerinae; el género más diverso fue Pachycondyla con 13 especies. La abundancia de hormigas se correlacionó directamente con la riqueza de especies y con el número de especies exclusivas. La riqueza fue mayor en la ventana agroforestal (24 especies), seguida de la silvopastoril (19) y de la tradicional (8). Cinco especies fueron comunes a las tres ventanas y siete especies (Ectatomma ruidum, Hypoponera sp.1 y sp.4, Odontomachus haematodus, O. brunneus y Pachycondyla constricta) marcaron las diferencias en composición. Odontomachus brunneus resultó indicadora para la ventana tradicional y Paraponera clavata para la ventana silvopastoril. La búsqueda directa fue el método más eficiente para muestrear hormigas cazadoras en el piedemonte amazónico.


We studied the abundance, richness and composition of hunting ants and their variation in production systems in department of Caquetá-Colombia, 27 farms were selected in three productive systems (agroforestry, silvopastoral and traditional), in this nine kinds of soil uses were identified. The proportions of clean pasture, agroforestry and old stubble contributed most to differentiating the systems. Five points were sampled per farm using four different methods for sampling ants (TSBF, formalin soil washing, screening of litter and direct search). A total of 280 organisms was collected, corresponding to nine genera and 35 species, belonging to the subfamilies Ectatomminae, Paraponerinae and Ponerinae. Pachycondyla was the most diverse genus (13 species). The abundance of ants was directly correlated with species richness and the number of exclusive species. The highest richness was observed in the agroforestry (24 species), followed by silvopastoral (19) and the lowest in traditional (8). Five species were common in the three systems and seven species marked the most differences in composition between systems (this was: Ectatomma ruidum, Hypoponera sp.1 and sp.4, Odontomachus haematodus, O. brunneus and Pachycondyla constricta). The species Odontomachus brunneus was indicator for the traditional system and Paraponera clavata was in silvopastoral system. Direct search was the most efficient method to sample ants in the Colombian Amazon foothills.
